Robert Olsen

         Robert Lee Olsen, age 85, of Carroll, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at his home in Carroll.      Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 5-7:00 P.M. at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll.  There will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Cindy Johnson of St. John Lutheran Church officiating, followed by a Masonic Memorial Service.      Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Elba Township Cemetery near Templeton with Father Steven Brodersen officiating, followed by a reception at The Still Bar and Restaurant in Templeton.  Burial will be in the Elba Township Cemetery with military honors provided by the Carroll American Legion.      Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Robert’s family at www.dahnwoodhouse.com.      Born on January 27, 1933 in Hamlin, Iowa, Robert was the son of Earnest and Marie (Rattenborg) Olsen.  He graduated from Audubon High School in 1951.  After high school he worked for the alfalfa mill in Audubon.  Robert was then drafted into the U.S. Army, and served overseas during the Korean Conflict.  After being discharged from the Army in 1955, he worked that summer as a heavy equipment operator before attending AIB in Des Moines and later graduating in 1957.  Robert began his accounting career in Carroll after being hired in 1957 by Robert S. Morrow accounting firm, which he later acquired in 1970.  That firm is now known as Olsen, Muhlbauer and Company, LLP.  He passed the CPA exam in 1966.  Robert reduced his workload in 1989, and completely retired in 1991, however he still made daily visits to the office.  During retirement, Robert enjoyed golfing, driving his Spyder, and the Knoxville Nationals Sprint Car Racing.       Robert is survived by his nieces: Diane Heck of Scottsdale, AZ, and Roxanne Nance (Dave) of Wellington, KS; his nephew, Jeff Schlater of Shenandoah, Iowa; his special friend, Carol Schoeppner of Templeton; his sister-in-law, Louise Olsen of Scottsdale, AZ; his office family, many friends and his morning coffee buddies.      He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Susan; his sister, Norma Schlater (Richard); his brother, Donald Olsen; and a nephew, Doug Schlater.
