Richard Dean Meyers

Richard Dean Meyers, age 79, of Coon Rapids, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his home in Coon Rapids surrounded by his family.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with Chaplain Angelo Luis officiating. Casket bearers will be Cory Meyers, Tylor Meyers, Jon Meyers, Josh Smith, Eric Hart, and George King.  Honorary casket bearers will be Mark Kennedy, Bill Carrick, Ronnie Beyerink, Tim Patrick, and Mike Smith.  Burial will be in the Union Township Cemetery with military honors by the Coon Rapids American Legion and the Iowa National Guard.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Monday evening.  Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. on Tuesday prior to the service.

Richard was born May 28, 1943 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Carl and Irene (Brown) Meyers.  He grew up in Coon Rapids and entered the United States Army in 1966 and served four years during the Vietnam Conflict.   He was married to Patricia Brown on May 17, 1966 in Carroll.  The couple raised their family in Coon Rapids and Richard worked for Oscar Mayer in Perry, and Cady Sanitation and the Northside in Coon Rapids.  He also drove truck for Randy’s Diesel and Randy Wagoner Trucking.  Richard enjoyed golfing, playing bumper pool, sitting on his back porch, driving around in his truck to have a cigarette, and spending time with his family.

Richard is survived by his special friend Bev Brown of Arizona; his children and their families: daughter Michelle Carrick (Bill) of Coon Rapids, son Tony Meyers (Lia) of Carroll, and daughter Brenda Meyers (Harley Herron) of Coon Rapids; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Violet Rickman of Des Moines and Jean Borkowski of Manning; a brother-in-law Gary Brown of Sedgwick, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by parents, his wife Patricia in 2005, a daughter Jeri Meyers, a brother Harley Fick, and a son-in-law Steve Rummans.
