Leland Duane Bender, age 84, of Glidden, IA, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Accura Healthcare in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden with Rev. Brian Camara officiating. Organist for the service will be Marlys Conner. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden from 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Leland’s grandchildren. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on March 26, 1934 in Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Eula (Wentzel) and Bernard Bender. He grew up on his family’s farm south of Glidden and graduated from Glidden High School in 1952. Leland began working for the Glidden Coop Creamery his sophomore year of high school. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1957 and served 2 years and was stationed in Arkansas and Washington State. He was married to Phyllis Greene on August 7, 1955 at First Presbyterian Church in Glidden by Rev. Becker. Leland and Phyllis lived in Washington until he was honorably discharged and then moved back to Glidden and continued to work at the creamery and farm. He then sold feed for Moorman Manufacturing Company for 21 years and then began selling cars for Macke Motors at their Glidden location and in Lake City. He later worked for Scott’s Auto Sales for several years before retiring. Leland was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Glidden. Leland is survived by his daughter Brenda Lee Rickabaugh and her husband Jeffrey of Des Moines; two grandsons: Benjamin and Joseph Tomlin both of Des Moines; a sister Delores Briedert of Lake City; other extended family and many dear friends. Leland was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Phyllis Bender on January 22, 2015.
