Zelda Clara Anderson, age 95, of Arcadia passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dose officiating. Organist for the service will be Rebecca Dose and soloist will be Annie Whitaker. Casket bearers will be Nic Anderson, Jim Anderson , Jason Sickels, Jason Taylor, Doug Schuette, and Ross Schuette. Honorary casket bearers will be Merle Witt and Tracy Onken. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. Zelda was born on July 15, 1924 in Wheatland Township, Carroll County, Iowa to Fred and Elsie (Hinz) Lussman. She was the oldest daughter of five children. Zelda was baptized as an infant on August 17, 1924 and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on April 2, 1939. She graduated Valedictorian of the Arcadia High School class of 1942. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. She married Elvin Anderson on January 24, 1945 at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage. To this union three sons were born; Allen, Douglas and Terry. Together they farmed north of Arcadia until Elvin’s death in 1999. Zelda was a woman of faith with a giving nature, was quick witted and was a loving, caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed tending her large garden and canning the produce for all to enjoy. She especially enjoyed working at her sewing machine making clothes for herself, doll clothes for her granddaughter, nieces, friends and neighbors. She also sewed many quilts for family and friends; and of most recent for her great grandchildren. She was a long time member of the Arcadia Ace Club and the Arcadia Cemetery Auxiliary.
Zelda is survived by two sons: Douglas of Glenwood, Iowa and Terry (Vicki) of Red Oak, Iowa; a daughter-in-law Diane Anderson of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Jill (Barry) Trease of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska; Michael Anderson (Brandy) of Vail, Iowa, Jim Anderson of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska, Nic (Molly) Anderson of Melbourne, Florida, Lindsay (Jason) Taylor of Overland Park, Kansas; Jason (Katie) Sickels of Red Oak, Iowa; three great-grandchildren; Davis Taylor and Anderson Taylor of Overland Park, Kansas and Hadleigh Sickels of Red Oak, Iowa; a sister LaDonna (Don) Mohr of Carroll; a brother Wilbur Lussman of Carroll; a sister-in-law Jeanette Liechti of Arcadia; a brother-in-law Wayne Anderson of Carroll; and several nieces and nephews.
Zelda was preceded in death by her husband Elvin in 1999; her son Allen in 2002; a granddaughter Lisa Anderson in 1976; and two sisters: Helma Onken of Lidderdale, Iowa and Caroline Bowman of Riverside, California.
