Wilma was born October 8, 1934 in Sioux City, Iowa to Henry and Dorothy (Digle) Petersen and baptized at Midway Church.  She graduated Salutatorian of her class in 1953 from Danbury Public School and especially enjoyed being a part of many band and vocal groups.  After graduation she was a secretary for Attorney Charles (Si) Anderson.
On March 13, 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, Bill Hartleben in Danbury, Iowa.  They lived in South Dakota, Kentucky and in 1955 moved to Ida Grove where their two children, David William and Linda Jean were born.  Wilma worked at the ASCS part time while her children were young and in 1965 began work at Iowa Public Service Company, now known as Mid American Energy.  She later transferred to the Storm Lake office and took early retirement after 30 years.  She moved to Carroll in 1998 and was a member of the Carroll First United Methodist Church while being active in the United Methodist Women and served as President for 11 years.  Wilma was a Past Mother Advisory and Grand Deputy of the Order of Rainbow for Girls and an active member and Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star.

Wilma enjoyed crossword puzzles, family history, butterflies, smiley faces, church breakfast group, pie, and coffee but most of all the times spent with family and friends.  She cherished the Grands and the Greats and liked to have special surprises planned for them.  They never knew where they would find their Christmas gifts!  Wilma was immensely proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. Wilma was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, Aunt and friend. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.
Wilma is survived by her son: David (Gail) Hartleben of Guthrie Center, daughter: Linda (Ron) Wonder of Carroll: five grandchildren, Nichole Renshaw of Guthrie Center, Bill Hartleben of Guthrie Center; Angie Hartleben of Adel, Holly (Ted) Hoene of Rochester, MN and Allison Hike Wonder of Carroll; great-grandchildren Leya, Whitney and Brooklynn Renshaw; Hannah and Dominic James; Mckinley, Madelyn and Kendall Hoene and Conor Hike.  Sisters Gwen Pfleeger of Ida Grove and Raona (Don) West of  Buffalo Center. Wilma also leaves nieces, nephews and cousins so dear to her heart as well as friends she loved being with and sharing holidays as often as possible.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Dorothy Petersen, husband Bill in 1982, brothers, Henry Jr., Oliver, Dick (Richard), sister Marian Southworth and infant sister Ruth.
