William Kurth

         William P. "Bill" Kurth, 77, of Marengo, Illinois, and formerly of Glidden passed away on December 5, 2018, at Centegra Hospital in Mc Henry, Illinois following a short illness.      Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the Glidden United Methodist Church with Rev. Lorinda Hoover officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday at the church until the time of service.  Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.      Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com.      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marengo (Illinois) High School Indians Booster Club, or to the family to establish a college fund for his grandchildren.    He was born May 5, 1941, in Carroll, Iowa to William C. and Philomena (Wolterman) Kurth.  On June 23, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Johnston, in Glidden, Iowa.  Bill graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City where he attended on a football scholarship. After graduation he worked for United States Gypsum (USG) in Fort Dodge, Iowa and was transferred to their main offices in Chicago in 1968.  He retired in 1999 after 39 years of service.  In his retirement he worked for H&R Block in Hampshire and Genoa, Illinois for 10 years.       Bill was also the President of Riley School Board for 10 years.  He loved sports and took a particular interest in football, baseball, and bowling. He was also an avid Cubs and Bears fan.     Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy; his sons, Matthew (Larissa Ranbom) and Eric (Lesley Kassicieh) Kurth; grandchildren, Robert and Regina; his sisters, Jo "Lois" Moberg and Dorothy (Jim) Strabala; his sister-in-law, Jeannie Kurth; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert "Bob" Kurth; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Moberg.
