William “Bill” Roger Heller, age 85, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Friendship Home in Audubon, IA, surrounded by his family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 4, 2020 at St. John Paul II Parish – Holy Spirit Church in Carroll with Fr. Kevin Richter as Celebrant. Lector for the Mass will be Robin Heller. Instrumental music will be by Jane Heithoff. Casket bearers will be Bill’s grandchildren. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with military honors by the Carroll American Legion.
Visitation without the family present will be held from 9:00 – 10:15 A.M. at Holy Spirit Church on Friday prior to the Mass.
Those in attendance at Bill’s services are asked to abide by Covid-19 guidelines and facemasks are required.

Bill was born August 18, 1935 in Carroll, IA, and was the son of Joseph and Matilda (Hansen) Heller. Bill grew up in Carroll and enlisted in the United States Army just before his senior year of high school and served two years during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, Bill returned to Carroll and was married to Carol Wiedl on August 6, 1960 in her home town of Norwalk, WI, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Carroll where he tended bar for a short time before becoming a police officer with the Carroll Police Department. The Heller’s moved to Northwood, IA, in 1984 where Bill served as Chief of Police for nine years. They moved back to Carroll in 1995 and Bill drove a taxi for Carroll Cab Company. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, the Carroll American Legion, and the Iowa State Police Association. Bill was an avid bowler and he also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and other sports. His favorite holiday was Christmas and he truly loved his family.
Bill is survived by his wife Carol Heller of Carroll; his seven children and their families: daughter Cheryl Heller of Colorado Springs, CO, son David Heller (Robin) of Phoenix, AZ, daughter Karen Lowman (Korbin Hass) of Manning, son James Heller (Dawn Karanik) of Colorado Springs, CO, daughter Barb Heller of Carroll, son Mark Heller (Beth) of Nevada, IA, and son Steven Heller (Jericho) of Nevada, IA; eleven grandchildren: Zachariah Heller, Ryan Lowman, Katie Lowman, Abby Heller, Reese Heller, Crystal Sabus, Eric Sabus, Annabelle Heller, Elias Heller, Jessica Walters, and Duke Heller; and two great-grandchildren Jack Lowman and Mallory Heller. Bill and Carol were also mom and dad to: Randy Heller of Arcadia, Patty Everett (Phil) of Topeka, KS, and Kathy Heller of Clay Center, KS. Bill is also survived by his sister Louise Hupp of Scranton; a brother-in-law Richard Wiedl (Louise) of Onalaska, WI; three sisters-in-law Patricia Miller of Sparta, WI, Virgene Wiedl of Norwalk, WI, and Marie Wiedl of Norwalk, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Matilda Heller; his mother and father-in-law George and Marie Weidl; two sisters: Mary Ann Lane (Marvin), Donna Rae Joseph; three brothers: Joseph Heller Jr. (Mary Lou) and twins Ronnie and Robert Heller; a sister-in-law Mildred Wiedl; four brothers-in-law: Anthony and Lawrence Wiedl, Cecil Hupp, and Marvin Lane; and a son Michael Heller at birth.
