William Henry Deuel, age 93, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at First United Methodist Church in Carroll with Rev. Ken Ferguson officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Wednesday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Michael Davis and soloist will be Mr. Skip Raridon. Burial will be in the Lanesboro Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Larry Deuel, Andy Muff, Zack Muff, Matt Muff, William Scalf, Eugene Scalf, and Katie Barry. The family suggest memorials be made to Stewart Memorial Hospice of Lake City and may be left at the funeral home or the church.
Born on November 28, 1915 at Sheridan Township, Iowa, he was the son of Zachary and Evelyne (Challand) Deuel. Bill lived and farmed in the Lake City – Lanesboro area all his life. He was married to Frances Hogge on July 25, 1941 at Rockport, Missouri. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Carroll. In his spare time Bill enjoyed fishing at the river near his farm, traveling to Florida for the winters, and growing musk melons and watermelons.
Surviving are three daughters: Beverly Scalf and her husband Dennis of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Connie Barry and her husband Todd of Sioux City, Iowa, and Debbie Muff and her husband Mike of Bronson, Iowa; a son Larry Deuel of Carroll, Iowa; eight grandchildren: William Scalf, Eugene Scalf, Danielle Pfeister, Kristi Kava, Katie Barry, Andy Muff, Matt Muff, and Zach Muff; four great grandchildren: Emily Ann, Star Leahann, Logan, and Kate; and a sister Alice Spencer of Lake City. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frances, in 2002, brothers Charles, Irving, and Wesley at age 11, and sisters Ada Hurley and Mary Gerdes.
