William “Bill” Jerome Esdohr, age 82, of Scranton passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2016 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, December 23, 2016 at the Scranton United Methodist Church with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Organist for the service will be Karen Murphy and soloist will be Chad Stevens. Military honors will be given at the church by the Iowa National Guard. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Scranton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Bill was born on his family’s farm west of Scranton on June 19, 1934 and was the son of Romaine and Gladys (Kotas) Esdohr. He grew up on the farm and attended country school until the fourth grade when his family moved into Scranton. Bill graduated from Scranton High School with the class of 1952. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Coleen Hamilton of Dana, on June 5, 1953. They were blessed with three sons: John, Dave, and Mike. Bill and Coleen made their home on the Esdohr family farm west of Scranton until 1962. Bill entered the U.S. Army on December 5, 1956 and was honorably discharged on September 18, 1958. He entered the Army National Guard on October 6, 1958 and was discharged on December 30, 1960. Bill farmed with his Dad for many years and also owned a trucking business. Bill was a private pilot and also enjoyed boating and traveling with family and friends. He loved working with his boys and helping with their 4-H projects showing cattle at the county and state fairs. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scranton for 63 years. Bill is survived by his wife Coleen of 63 years of Scranton; three sons: John Esdohr of Scranton, Dave Esdohr (Paula) of Urbandale, and Mike Esdohr (Brenda) of St. Ansgar, IA; seven grandchildren; Jessika Storm (Phil), Jenna Johnson (Matt), Caleb Esdohr, Justin Esdohr, Ryan Esdohr (Abigale), Cory Esdohr (Heather), and Elizabeth Esdohr; twelve great grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; a sister Delores Finch (Dick) of Jefferson; one nephew; three nieces; and two brothers-in-law: Bill Hamilton (Janis) of Jefferson and Jerry Hamilton of Centerville, SD. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Romaine and Gladys Esdohr, his mother and father-in-law Raymond and Eileen Hamilton, and a nephew David Finch.
