William E. Baumhover

William “Bill” Baumhover, age 79, of Carroll passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by his family. Born on May 30, 1936 in Carroll, he was the son of Bernard and Rose (Kanne) Baumhover. Bill was raised on his family’s farm north of Carroll and graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1954. Bill began his career in agriculture with Juergens Chicken Hatchery which he later purchased and renamed B&B Hatchery. Bill was married to Margaret “Bubbles” Reiff at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic church in Mt. Carmel on January 7, 1956. The couple later divorced. Bill found his true niche in life as a car salesman and worked for many years in Colorado and Iowa retiring from Macke Motors in 2013. Bill enjoyed boating, playing horseshoes, watching the Denver Broncos and NASCAR. Bill loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill will always be remembered for his ornery sense of humor. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Russ Baumhover of Des Moines, Lori (Craig) Tigges of Mt. Carmel, and Jen Naig of Graettinger; eight grandchildren: Tyler (Molli) Leiting, Colin Leiting, Lindsey Leiting, Jace Naig, Justin Naig, Jadin Naig, Krista Tigges and Carly Tigges; four great-grandchildren Keegan, Crue, Brantley, and Lydia; his siblings Catherine (Dale) Wittry of Carroll, Paul (Annette) Baumhover of Carroll, Gerald (Alice) Baumhover of Carroll, Charles (Jean) Baumhover of Firestone, Colorado, Steve (Norma) Baumhover of Panora; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, longtime companion Kate Broich, his sister-in-law Mary Lou Baumhover, and his godson Rodney Baumhover. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson as Celebrant. Burial will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Mt. Carmel. Friends may call after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 12:30 P.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of Mass Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com
