Weldon Curtis Franzeen, age 88, of Bayard passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids surrounded by his loving family. A visitation and time to share memories will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids. Burial will be in the Willow Township Cemetery. Curtis, as he was known to most, was born on March 23, 1929 in Paton, IA, and was the son of Weldon and Gayle (Wilson) Franzeen. On November 28, 1948, Curtis was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Rebecca Ann Jackson. After high school graduation, Curtis started farming in the Scranton area. The couple moved to the Bayard area in 1956 where they raised their family and farmed for 50 years. Curtis was involved with the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association, he served as president of the Bayard School Board, and was a member of the Scranton Masonic Lodge. Curtis was a man of faith and was actively involved with church activities and home Bible study groups. In his later years, Curtis’ life was centered around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren attending their sporting events and activities. Curtis cherished his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Those left to honor his memory include his wife Rebecca; two sons Sidney Franzeen (Cindy) of Bayard and Craig Franzeen (Nancy) of Guthrie Center; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters Eleanor MacDonald of Cummings, GA, and Karen Fant (Jim) of Heathrow, FL; a brother-in-law Kenneth Jackson of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents Weldon and Gayle Franzeen.
