Warren Harding Knight

Warren Harding Kinght, age 93, of Carroll, IA passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at his home in Carroll. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll with Rev. Rikki Sorensen officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Duane Hoover, Dean Hoover, Ned Johnston, Larry Sporrer, Deloss Davis, and Pat O’Donnell. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden with military honors by the Maurice Dunn Post of the Carroll American Legion. Born on November 14, 1920 at Carrollton, IA, he was the son of Roy B. and Maryetta (Davis) Knight. He grew up in Carrollton until his father passed away when Warren was 14 years old. The family then moved to Carroll where he graduated from Carroll High School. Warren enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942 and served four years stationed in many places during WW II. Following his military service he lived in Jefferson where he worked as an auto mechanic. He was married to Lillian Temple on February 22, 1947 at Boone, IA. The couple moved to Carroll in 1950 where he was employed by Hannasch Motors for several years before starting his own business, Knight Body Shop. He operated the shop until his retirement. Warren was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Carroll and he was a member of the Carroll American Legion for 68 years. He loved to spend time playing cards with his many friends, fishing, hunting, ballroom dancing with Lillian and partying at what later became the Southside Country Club. Warren is survived by three daughters: Connie Fontanini of Carroll, Deb Hargens and her husband Jerry of Glidden, and Paula Knight of Shawnee, Oklahoma; six grandchildren: Bobby Fontanini (Jennifer Clark) of Round Rock, TX, Todd Fontanini and his wife Ronica of Apex, NC, Holly Anthofer and her husband Mark of Coon Rapids, Scott Hargens of Waukee, IA, Rachel Benetiz and her husband Michael of Victoria, TX, and Katie Hennessey (Jon Woodland) of Clark, SD; eight great grandchildren: Jeffrey, Ashtyn, Isabella, Sophia, Cody, Nick, Hunter, and Alayna; a sister Eileen Hoover of Carroll; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lillian in 2010, two sisters: Lucille Carson and Mildred Smith, and a nephew Jim Carson.
