Waneta Pauline, daughter of Lisle Clifford and Margaret Pearl (Rorick) Rinehart, was born July 9, 1928, on a farm south of Coon Rapids, Iowa. The 2nd of 5 children, Waneta started school at Seely Township. After 1st grade, Waneta’s family moved back to the family farm and she attended country school at Orange #8, graduating from Guthrie Center High School in 1945. On May 14, 1946, Waneta was united in marriage with Duane Johnson at her parents’ home. Three sons: Richard, Ronald and Randall, were born to this union. They lived in Coon Rapids until 1961 when they purchased their present home in Bayard. Waneta worked at odd jobs cleaning homes and clerking in stores until 1978 when she became Library Aide at Bayard Community School. When Bayard and Coon Rapids schools combined, Waneta became an elementary aide at Robert Deal School and an aide at the high school in Coon Rapids. She retired in 1990 after a brain aneurysm. She suffered from lung disease and asthma the remainder of her life. Waneta enjoyed reading, bead work, computer games, puzzles of all kinds, and looking for the funny bloopers in life. On Tuesday, December 29, 2009, Waneta died at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. She was 81 years of age. Besides her parents, Waneta was preceded in death by three brothers: Clifford, Roger and Richard Rinehart; a grandson Joshua James Johnson; a brother-in-law Dean Hupp and a nephew Tim Heller. She is survived by her husband Duane Johnson of Bayard; three sons: Richard Johnson of Dawson; Ronald Johnson and wife Patricia of Apple Valley, Minnesota; and Randall Johnson of Des Moines; three grandsons: Tyson and Ross Johnson of Minnesota; and Colt Johnson of Dawson; four great-granddaughters: Sydney, Kara and Kallie of Minnesota and Jazmine of Dawson; a great-grandson Kyle Johnson of Minnesota; a sister Naomi Friedrichsen and husband Roger of Schleswig; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
