Wanda Mae Johnson, age 89, of Carroll and formerly of Greene, IA, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Sunnybrook in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene, IA, with Pastor Daniel Flucke officiating. Organist for the service will be Sandy Schuknecht. Congregational hymns will be “In The Garden” and “Abide With Me”. Casket bearers will be Dave Olberding, Jeff Oleson, Kyle Kraft, Kent Kraft, Jeff Dralle, Harold Koch, and Todd Koch. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 – 7 P.M. at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. Additional visitation will be held from 1 P.M. on Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene until the time of service. Wanda was the daughter of Dick and Marie (Kusian) Van Horn. Wanda graduated from Greene High School and then attended Gates Business School in Waterloo before returning to Greene. She married Ray A. Johnson on May 18, 1947 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vilmar, Iowa. The couple made their home in Greene where Wanda worked for the Graven Law Offices. Later she was the secretary to the high school principal until her retirement. Wanda was a member of the library trustees for a number of years as well as a member of the Greene Betterment Club. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church where she was the first woman to be president of the congregation. She enjoyed playing her organ, making crafts and handwork. Wanda is survived by two daughters: Shari Oleson (Donald) of Carroll and Jolene Kraft (Kyle) of Sequin, TX; four grandchildren: Suzanne Olberding (David) of Carroll, Jeffrey Oleson (Michelle) of Polk City, IA, Heather Reeves (Andrew) of San Marcos, TX, and Kent Kraft (Amber) of Cheverly, MD; seven great-grandchildren: Abigail, Erin, and Ethan Olberding, and Lauren, Isaiah, Addison and Emmerson Oleson; two sisters-in-law: Joan Johnson of Jesup, IA, and Joyce Knighten of West Monroe, LA. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Dick and Marie Van Horn; her husband Ray in 2006, a brother Dale Van Horn; and two sisters: Evelyn Wells and Helen Wiebke.
