Walter "Wally" Joseph Gute

Walter “Wally” Joseph Gute, age 73, of Carroll passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Born on May 7, 1935 at Carroll he was the son of Leo and Ann (Soyer) Gute. He grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1954. He was married to Frances Furne on February 17, 1958 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. They were married for 25 years and later divorced. Wally owned and operated the Villa Lodge in Carroll from 1976 until 1984. Surviving are four daughters: Brenda Riesberg and her husband Merle of Carroll, Belinda Eischeid and her husband Doug of Carroll, Brigid Halbur and her husband John of Manning, and Benita Rotert of Carroll; a son Brandan Gute and his wife Christine of Cedar Falls; twelve grandchildren; a brother Art Gute and his wife Mickey of Carroll, a sister Betty Pollastrini and her husband Ray of Carroll; and a sister-in-law Betty Gute of Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Brian Gute, a brother Don Gute, and Fran Gute. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Rev. John Gerald as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. on Friday where there will be a Rosary at 3:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday to lie in state until the time of service. Lector for the mass will be Christine Gute , gift bearers will be Jasmine Riesberg, Bailey Halbur, and Leandra Gute. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Merle Riesberg, Doug Eischeid, John Halbur, Austin Eischeid, Blaine Riesberg, Greg Gute and Mike Gute.
