Vesta Fern Kidney

Vesta Fern Kidney, age 89, of Ames and formerly of the Carroll area passed away on Sunday, August 05, 2007 at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. Born on September 2, 1917 at Coon Rapids, Iowa, she was the daughter of Bruce and Iva (Brown) McLaughlin. Vesta was a life-long resident of the Carroll area. She graduated from Glidden High School in 1935. She was married to Lauren Kidney on January 19, 1938 at the home of her parent’s. The couple raised their family and farmed near Glidden. She was a life-long member of Pleasant Ridge Community Church, she taught Sunday school and cared for nursery children at church and she had been a 4-H Leader. Vesta was truly devoted to her church and her family. Surviving are three daughters: Lavonne Farner and her husband Steve of Ames, Iowa; Lola Peters and her husband Ray of Ankeny, Iowa; and Lila Johnson and her husband Fred of Ames; six grandchildren: Steve Farner Jr. and his wife Jeanne of Omaha, Tyler Farner and his wife LeAnn of Ames; Jeff Peters and his wife Wanda of Jewell, Iowa; Penni Godden and her husband Matt of Carmel, Indiana, Brian Johnson and his wife Marie of Atlanta, Georgia, and Shannon Berg and her husband John of Chicago, Illinois; fifteen great grandchildren: George, Ellie, Jack, and Isaac Farner; Madelyn, Savannah, Caroline, and Solomon Farner; Molly, Maggie, Luke, and Logan Peters; Lauren and Ben Godden; and Avery Berg. She is also survived by two brothers: Bruce McLaughlin and his wife Betty of Phoenix, Arizona, and John McLaughlin and his wife Karine of Glidden; and a sister-in-law Carol Herman of Glidden. Vesta was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, her husband, and a sister Genevieve Turner. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Ridge Community Church near Glidden with Mr. Bill Orlano officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of service on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Ridge Community Church and may be left at the church. Casket bearers will be grandsons: Steve Farner Jr., Tyler Farner, Jeff Peters, Matt Godden, Brian Johnson, and John Berg. Organist for the service will be Joan Bundt and the soloist will be Mr. Mark Caraher. Burial will be at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden.
