Vernon Joseph Rothmeyer, age 56, of Carroll and formerly of Glidden passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Father Anthony Pick as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 3:30 P.M. on Friday where there will be a Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. by the St. Elizabeth Seton parish. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Casket bearers will be Kevin Reis, Kraig Reis, Kim Reis, Kelly Reis, Kris Reis, and Nick Reis. Honorary casket bearers will be Trenton Wenck, Tyler Wenck and Vernon’s New Hope Village Family. Born on December 22, 1952 at Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Matt and Gertrude (Klocke) Rothmeyer. He grew up in Glidden and attended Grant #5 school near Glidden. Vernon has been a part of the New Hope Village family since it opened in 1977 most recently living at the Oakridge Group Home. Over the years he participated in various work programs through New Hope Village. In his spare time he enjoyed horseback riding, music, swimming, dancing, baseball, car races, watching television, the Iowa Hawkeyes, drinking Diet Pepsi, riding in the work truck with his Dad, and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden. Surviving are two sisters: Helen Reis of Coon Rapids, and Linda Wenck and her husband Jerry of Rio Vista, California; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his extended New Hope Village Family. Preceding him in death were his mother, Gertie, in 1998 and his father, Matt, in February, 2009. He also was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Joe Reis in 1998.
