On Wednesday, May 6, 2009 Vernon Peter Brincks (Lefty) age 66 died with family at his bedside after complications from a 30 years battle with diabetes at the Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll. He was born on November 2, 1942 at Carroll, Iowa, and was the son of Leonard and Margaret (Soyer) Brincks . He was married to Mary K. Thelen on May 18, 1963 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda, Iowa. He graduated from Kuemper High School; attended Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha, Nebraska, and after his return to Carroll was employed with Bob Badding Construction and later by Juergens Produce and Feed Company where he spent 34 years as a farm consultant. During his career in agriculture he received many high sales achievement awards through the Ralston-Purina Company. Upon retirement Lefty marketed hogs within his own business. Known to many as Lefty or Left Hander, Vernon enjoyed anything that had to do with baseball or slow pitch. After pitching high school baseball and slow pitch for many years he coached slow pitch teams that came close to being state contenders. In 1989 he was inducted into the Carroll County Softball Hall of Fame for managing and in 1998 he was inducted into the Carroll County Softball Hall of Fame as a player. Surviving are his wife Mary K. Brincks of Carroll; a daughter Kristy Liechti and her husband John of Lake View, Iowa; two sons: Eric Brincks and his wife Jennifer of Glidden, and Bryce Brincks and his wife Terri of Glidden; and seven Grandchildren: Kevin Liechti, Jay Liechti, Colton Brincks, Megan Brincks, Madison Brincks, Carter Brincks and Branden Brincks. He was preceded in death by his mother and father Marge and Leonard Brincks, his mother and father- in-law Fred and Mathilda Thelen, and many aunts and uncles. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, May 11, 2009 at Holy Spirit Cahtolic Chruch in Carroll. Friends may call at the Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday to lie in state until the time of service.
