Verna E. Frank, age 89, of Carroll passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Carroll with Rev. Dr. Michael Fitzsimmons officiating. Friends may call at the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. followed by an Eastern Star Memorial Service. Organist for the service will be Ellen Severin. Casket bearers will be David Benton, Dillman Benton, Kurtlan Frank, Jon Hider, Michael Vincent, and Jospeh Cellucci. Interment will be in the Westside Cemetery. Verna was born March 25, 1923 at Westside, Iowa, the daughter of Dillman E. and Bertha Mae (Truhler) Benton. She grew up in Westside and graduated from Westside High School in 1940. Following high school she worked for the D.E. Benton Company as a bookkeeper. She was married to Harry D. Frank on June 22, 1941 at the home of her parents. Following their marriage the couple lived in Des Moines while Harry served in the military and Verna worked for Life Magazine. The couple lived in various locations before moving back to Westside in 1944 where she resumed her career with her family’s business. Harry and Verna moved to Carroll in 1958 and she worked for Robert S. Morrow and Co. as an office manager until starting her own accounting business in 1965. Verna was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Carroll, Order of the Eastern Star Signet Chapter # 1, and she served as president of the Accountants Association of Iowa in 1976. Verna enjoyed gardening, traveling, and the Scottish Terriers she had over the years, but her passion was her career at Verna E. Frank L.P.A.. Verna is survived by a son Gerald B. Frank and his wife Carol of Panora, Iowa; two daughters: LoaDawn Vincent and her husband Gene of Carroll and Diann Yoakum and her husband Rick of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Douglas Frank, Kurtlan Frank, Steffanie Frank, Michael Vincent, Suzanne Hider, and Joseph Cellucci;eight great grand children; one great great granddaughter; a sister-in-law: Marjorie Bauer of Burlington, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry in 2010, three brothers: Richard, Lester, and Dillman Benton, and two sisters: Pearl Lenz and Georgene Peters.
