Born on July 25, 1922 at Lake City, Iowa, he was the son of Albert and Nina (Borden) Wright. He was married to Mary Louise Grisso on December 16, 1941 at Scranton, Iowa. The couple farmed in Greene and Guthrie counties nearly 60 years. They moved to the Horseshoe Bend area of Greene County in 1969 where he currently lived. Vern loved to hunt, to fish, to play cards and slot machines. He was a fan of country music, singing and playing guitar as a young man and recently listening to old favorites on new C.D’s. His love of hunting had taken him to the western states many times. He often told stories of those days and those experiences. He and his wife traveled to Canada as well as Alaska to fish. In recent years, he spent the winters in Maui, Hawaii where he enjoyed viewing the daily catch in the harbor.
