Verlene Ellen Nappe, age 82, of Carroll passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 9, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Ryan Roehrig officiating. Organist for the service will be Abe Batten. Casket bearers will be Verlene’s family members. Burial will be in the Sion Cemetery in Kensett, IA.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Those in attendance at Verlene’s visitation and funeral are asked to abide by Covid-19 social distancing guidelines and masks are required.

Verlene was born on May 16, 1938 on her family’s farm near Harlan, NE and she was the daughter of Carl Peter and Anna Mae (Graf) Johnson. She graduated from Palmer High School in Palmer, NE, in 1956. Following high school she worked in her parent’s café until she was married to Wilmer Nappe on October 20, 1957 in Norfolk, NE. The couple moved several times with Wilmer’s job at Chicago Northwestern Rail Road before moving to Carroll in 1960. Verlene was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll where she was also a member of Ruth Circle. Verlene enjoyed spending time with her family.
Verlene is survived by her daughter Bev Reed (Chris) of Auburn, IA; a grandson Todd Maynard (Kelsey) of Knoxville, TN; a brother-in-law Don Nappe (Carol) of Kensett, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
Verlene was preceded in death by her husband Wilmer in 1994; a brother Sam Johnson; and her son Brian Nappe in 2020.
