Verda Laverne Lloyd, age 86, of Glidden, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Glidden Untied Methodist Church with Rev. Jessica Rockhold officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Doris Bentley and the soloist will be Mary Ross. Casket bearers will be grandsons and great grandsons: Mathew Tanner, Chris Tanner, Ethan Tanner, Derek Tanner, Chad Lloyd, Tyler Witte, and Brent Lloyd. Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden.
Born on November 10, 1924 Ava, Missouri, she was the daughter of George Calvin and Anna A. (Mc Cullough) Cornelius. She grew up in the Coon Rapids – Bayard area and attended Bayard High School. Verda was a house worker for various families in the Glidden area and she was a care giver for many people over the years. She was married to Ralph Lloyd November 14, 1944 at Jefferson in the Methodist Church Parsonage. The couple raised their four children in Glidden. She was a member of the Glidden United Methodist Church and she had been a member of the UMW. In her spare time Verda enjoyed reading, puzzles, quilting, going to coffee with her friends, and working at the church.
Surviving are two daughters: Linda Ayoki and her husband Winston of Hiawatha, Iowa, and Susan Tanner and her husband Michael of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sons: Gary Lloyd and his wife Diane of Millard, Nebraska, and Michael Lloyd and his wife Krystal of Glidden; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; a brother Don Cornelius and his wife Norma of Ames, Iowa; a sister Freda Hall and her husband Bill of Ankeny, Iowa; and a brother-in-law Dwaine Duncan of Coon Rapids, Iowa. Verda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph in 1983, a granddaughter Christine Lloyd, a great granddaughter Tiyana Walton, a brother Dale Cornelius, and sister Norma Duncan, and a sister Ruth in infancy.
