Vera Gute, age 96, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2009 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a brief illness. Born on July 4, 1913, at Willey, Iowa, she was the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Zitzlsperger) Bayer. She grew up in Willey where she attended country school. She was married to John Gute on February 12, 1934 at at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Willey, Iowa by Father H. J. Dries. The couple lived in Glidden where they raised their two daughters Sharon and Ruth Ann. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church and the RSVP Quilters. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, upholstering furniture, and refinishing furniture. Surviving are two sisters: Eva Jentzen of Carroll, and Rita Williams of Leon, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on January 25, 1985 two daughters: Sharon Gute and Ruth Ann Crane, and brothers: Clarence, Harry, Russ, Gene, and Ralph in infancy. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Glidden with Fr. Anthony Pick assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners.Lector will be Carol Bayer. Gift Bearers will e Diane Gute and Sandy Moeller. Mass servers will be Kristina and Jason Grossman Organist will be Mary Ross and Mark and Marlys Conner will sing Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden. Casket bearers will be Michael Bayer, Paul Neelans, Jerome Gute, Art Gute, Lynn Stork, and Dale Moeller.
