Velma Odessa (Stone) Wolf, age 92, of Scranton passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Church of Christ in Scranton with Pastor Bob McKnight officiating assisted by John Bown. Organist for the service will be Martha Wolf and soloist will be Larry Dowd. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 5 – 7 P.M. on Friday. The casket will be moved to the church at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Jerry Stone, Roger Stone, Chester Vaughan, Gary Stone, Larry Stone, Tanner Bown, and Kirk Stone. Honorary casket bearers will be Dick Stone, Jack Stone, Donald Stone, Jeff Stone, Brian Stone, Zachary Stone, Tyler Stone, and Randy Vaughan. Burial will be in the Orange Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on February 5, 1923 in Guthrie County, she was the daughter of Carl and Hazel (Betts) Stone. Her father immigrated to the United States when he was 7 years old from Sweden. Velma grew up in Bayard where she graduated from high school in 1940. Following high school she attended Simpson College and earned a degree in education. She was married to Kenneth Wolf on August 13, 1950. Velma’s teaching career included: one year at Orange Center in Guthrie County, one year at Greenbrier country school #4, and her third, fourth, and fifth year of teaching was in Viola Township at the Viola Center School. Velma then taught at Scranton Consolidated Schools from 1948 until her retirement in 1985. She went back to college and earned her Master’s degree in education from Drake University while teaching in Scranton during the summers. In retirement she moved to Bentonville, Arkansas from 1985 until returning to Scranton in 1999. In her spare time, Velma enjoyed writing letters to friends, teachers, students, and family. She did volunteer work in Arkansas and enjoyed hobbies including rock collecting and crafts. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Scranton, the I.S.E.A. and the N.E.A. Velma has made her home at Evergreen Ridge in Jefferson since May of 2013. Velma is survived by several in-laws; several nieces and nephews, and many good friends. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth in 2002, five sisters: Lillian, Maybelle, Jean, Jane, and Betty; and five brothers: Carroll, Joseph, Earl, Alfred, and Junior.
