Valorie Cora MacDonald, age 64, of Des Moines passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Scranton United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Martha Wolf. Casket bearers will be Greg Schroeder, Todd Arnold, Shawn MacDonald, John Shirbroun, Eldon Wright, and B.J. Wright. Burial will be in the Scranton Township Cemetery.
Born on August 3, 1946 at Jefferson, Iowa, she was the daughter of Burnell and Shirley (Seward) MacDonald. She grew up in Scranton and graduated from Scranton High School in 1964. She then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska and earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She taught school in Council Bluffs and later moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and worked for Exxon Oil. In 1980 Valorie earned her MSW Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa. She then moved to Des Moines and worked as a social worker. She was a member of the Unitarian Church in Des Moines. In her spare time she enjoyed her cats, swimming, reading, working on her computer.
Surviving are her twin sister Vickie MacDonald of Adel, Iowa; two brothers: Stacy MacDonald and his wife Janis of Scranton, and Craig MacDonald and his wife Susanne of Scranton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
