Valeria “Val” Holm, age 92, of Carroll passed away on Monday, April 12, 2010 at the Carroll Health Center. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll where friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.. Pastor Don Gibson will officiate. Graveside services will be held will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Davenport with Pastor Richard Miller of First Presbyterian Church in Davenport officiating. Casket bearers will be Valeria’s Grandchildren. Born on August 6, 1917 at Donahue, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Clara (Schnack) Malmloff. She grew up in Donahue where she attended school as a girl. She was married to Vernon John Holm on September 17, 1938 at Davenport, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in various cities before moving to Iowa City where they raised their two daughters. Her husband passed away in 1974 and she moved to Carroll to be closer to her daughter. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll and the Order of the Eastern Star while living in Iowa City of which she was Past Matron. In her spare time she enjoyed going to coffee with her friends, taking care of flowers, spending the winter months in Texas, and spending time with her grandchildren and family. Surviving are a daughter Darlene Blayney of Eustis, Florida; a daughter Vivian Steinkamp and her husband Dennis of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband and her special friend Pete Sheer.
