Thomas "T.J." Berns

Thomas Joseph “T.J.” Berns, age 35, of Carroll passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at his home in Carroll.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating.  Casket bearers will be Bo Berns, Adam Berns, Kevin Peace, Randy Greene, Jason McFarland and Brady Boell.

Visitation will be held at St. John Lutheran Church from 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday until the time of service.  Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com

Born on July 28, 1983 in Carroll, he was the son of Stan and Cindy (Peterson) Berns.  T.J. grew up in the Carroll – Lidderdale area and graduated from Carroll High School in 2002.  He worked at Farner – Bocken for many years and most recently worked at Pella.  T.J. enjoyed playing the guitar and he was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan.

T.J. is survived by twin daughters Kiyah and Marasyn and their mother Shannon Wittrock of Halbur; his special friend Kelsey Powell and her two sons James and Tyson; his mother Cindy Northcutt of Des Moines; his father Stan Berns (Marilyn) of rural Carroll; two sisters: Crystal Peace (Kevin) of West Des Moines and Kristen Greene (Randy) of Gowrie; two brothers Bo Berns (Angie) of Vail and Adam Berns (Rachelle) of Des Moines; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

T.J. was preceded in death by his step-father Rick Northcutt; his grandparents Earl and LaVonne Peterson and Earl and Norma Berns; his aunt Su Aros; and his cousin Ryan Peterson.
