Thomas McLaughlin, age 76, of Coon Rapids passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View. Graveside services will be held at 3 P.M. on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Coon Rapids Cemetery with Fr. John Gerald officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on April 11, 1941 in Carroll, IA, he was the son of Anderson and Kathleen (Welch) McLaughlin. Tom grew up in Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1958. He was married to Barbara Whitten on May 8, 1968 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids and to this union two children were born two children Brian and Nancy. The couple later divorced. He was employed by West Central Cooperative in Ralston, Oscar Mayer in Perry, and the Garst and Thomas Seed Company in Coon Rapids. Tom lived on his family’s farm east of Coon Rapids and raised cattle. He was a lifelong member of Annunciation Parish in Coon Rapids. Tom was an avid Notre Dame football fan and he enjoyed following all types of sports. Tom is survived by his children Brian McLaughlin (Willow) of Lidderdale and Nancy McLaughlin of Hutchinson, Kansas; five grandchildren: Johnathan, Chance, Hayden, Alyssa, and Grace McLaughlin and Makayla Pote; a sister Angela Long (Maurice) of rural Coon Rapids; a brother Neil McLaughlin (Shirley) of South Bend, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his mother and father Anderson and Kathleen McLaughlin; a brother Robert McLaughlin; and a son Michael in infancy.
