Thomas Eugene Chase

Thomas Eugene Chase passed away very peacefully the evening of Thursday, September 5, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Schott as Celebrant.  Lector for the Mass will be Dan Palmer.  Music for the Mass will be by Jane Heithoff and Jake Gute. Gift bearers will be Mark and Kristy Poland.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Military honors by the Carroll American Legion.

Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Monday.  There will be no visitation prior to the Mass on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Saint Anthony Regional Cancer Center or New Hope Village, both located in Carroll.

Tom was born on April 9, 1933, the son of LaVerne and Anna (Zembsch) Chase, in Cherokee, IA. He lived in a few different Iowa towns before moving to Alta during grade school. He graduated from Alta High School in 1951.

It was in Alta where he met his future wife, Margaret Anderson. On October 29, 1955, Tom & Margaret were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, IA.

After graduating from high school, Tom attended Buena Vista College before enlisting in the United States Army. He graduated from the University of Iowa, earning his Bachelor of Business Administration in 1959.

Upon his graduation, Tom accepted a job at the A.C. Nielsen Market Research company in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. It was here that Tom and Margaret’s three children were born. Soon after, he accepted a job transfer to the A.C. Nielsen office in Lincoln, Nebraska. A few years later, Tom decided he’d like to be in business for himself.

In 1973, Tom and his family settled in Carroll, Iowa. Together with his wife, Margaret, they owned and operated Stone Printing & Office Products Center.

Tom was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, past member of the Rotary Club of Carroll, former board member of the Carroll Planning & Zoning Commission and the Saint Anthony Hospital Foundation.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Margaret; his three children and their families: Lisa Chase (Richard Eggers) of Carroll; son Tom Chase (Dan Palmer) of Rapid City, SD, and Jill Weber (John) of Carroll; five grandchildren: Chayse Poland, Emily Weber (Josh Cote), Zach Eggers, twins Carly Kolar (Nathaniel) and Casey Weber (Kevin Shires); brothers Douglas Chase of Fonda, IA and Fr. Ray Chase of Cockeysville, MD; sister-in-law Joan Sherkenbach of Cherokee, IA; brother-in-law Ronald Anderson of Aurelia, IA; sister-in-law Barb Anderson of Topeka, KS; sister-in-law JoAnn Anderson of Omaha, NE; several nieces and nephews, and many valued, life-long friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents LaVerne and Anna Chase; his father and mother-in-law Earl and Pearl Anderson; two brothers: Clair (Twyla) and James (Janis); a sister Dorothy Kilbride (Gene); a sister Juanita in infancy; sister-in-law Veronica Chase; brothers-in-law Bill Anderson, Donald Anderson (Rhetta), Louis Anderson, Stan Sherkenbach, and sister-in-law Julie Anderson.

The family would like to thank his incredible caregivers including Dr. John Evans, the wonderful and caring staff at Regency Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and his nurses and aides at Gentiva Hospice.
