Theodore J. "Ted" Edwards, age 78, of Carroll passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 17, 2017 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson as Celebrant and Fr. Edmund Tiedeman will concelebrate the Mass. Lector for the Mass will be Zach Edwards. Gift Bearers will be Ted’s children: Brad, Kelly, and Tyler. Casket Bearers will be Ted’s grandchildren. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday evening. Visitation will resume at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday at Holy Spirit Church until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ted’s name may be left at the funeral home or the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Ted’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on August 27, 1938 in Storm Lake, IA, he was the son of F.L. Theodore and Abigail (Makay) Edwards. Ted grew up in Storm Lake and graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1956 where he was pitcher on the baseball team and a guard on the basketball team. Following high school, he attended Buena Vista College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He was married to Sandra Kay Hyllested on October 4, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake by Fr. Alfred McCoy. Sandy and Ted lived in Storm Lake until moving to Grimes in 1960 where Ted taught History and coached girls basketball and golf. He also delivered ice cream for Furnas Ice Cream Company in the summers. They moved to Dallas Center in 1963 where he taught and was head coach of the football team. They moved to Carroll in 1970 and Ted taught Humanities, Sociology, and American History and was head baseball coach, assistant boys basketball coach, and assistant football coach. The junior varsity basketball team was undefeated in 1973 and CHS won the Midwest baseball conference in 1976 and 1977. Ted retired from teaching in 1994 and worked part time in retirement. Ted enjoyed playing golf, cards, he was an avid Indianapolis Colts and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, but most of all he loved watching his grandchildren participate in their activities. Ted is survived by his wife Sandy of 57 years of Carroll; son Brad Edwards of Ft. Dodge; daughter Kelly Treinen (Tom) of Noblesville, IN, and son Tyler Edwards (Edie) of Dysart; eleven grandchildren: Meredith Treinen, Zach Edwards, Abigail Edwards, Madeline Hirschfeld (Jon Michael), Dylan Bordenaro, Sam Edwards, Michele Treinen, Drew Edwards, Dawson Edwards, and Riley Edwards; and a great grandchild on the way; two sisters-in-law: Sally Tryon of Bella Vista, AR, and Sharon Ruliffson of Hudgins, VA; two nieces; and three nephews. Ted was preceded in death by his parents F.L. Theodore and Abigail Edwards; his mother and father-in-law Syd and Era Hyllested; and a grandson Michael Treinen in 2008.
