Sylvia Jennie Clausen, age 99, of Carroll and formerly of Breda passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Wheatland Presbyterian Church near Breda with Rev. Donald Gibson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:30 – 6:30 P.M. on Thursday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist will be Marilyn Hundling and congregational hymns will be “In the Garden” and “Amazing Grace”. Casket bearers will be Mike Schmidt, Tom Schmidt, Jeffrey Schmidt, Joseph Schmidt, Dave Hundling, Butch Obman, and Jerry Corbin. Burial will be in the Wheatland Township Cemetery near Breda.
Born on November 20, 1913 at Clara City, Minnesota, she was the daughter of George and Emma (Greve) Klaassen. She grew up in Clara City where she attended school. Sylvia was married to Clarence Clausen on September 21, 1937 at Dell Rapids, South Dakota. The couple farmed west of Breda where they raised their family. Sylvia was very active in the farming operation and she enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and spending time outdoors. She was a member of Wheatland Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women.
Sylvia is survived by a daughter Janice Schmidt and her husband Robert of Roseville, Minnesota; three sons: Mark Clausen and his wife Debbie of San Diego, California, John Clausen and his wife Kas of Carroll, and David Clausen of Seoul, Korea; a brother Ervin Klaassen and his wife Delores of Clara City, Minnesota; five grandchildren: Mike Schmidt and his wife Gina, Tom Schmidt and his wife Kathy, Dan Schmidt and his wife Katrina, Danielle Clausen, and Jenna Clausen; six great grandchildren: Joseph, Hannah, Jeffrey, Tori, Emily, and Robbie; and nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2002, two brothers: Clarence Klaassen and his wife Gertrude and Alvin Klaassen and his wife Lola, a sister Lucille DeGrote and her husband Harm, and brother in infancy.
