Su Aros, age 61, of Carroll, Iowa, died of pancreatic cancer on Monday, December 15, 2008 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa.
Born on June 15, 1947 at Carroll, Iowa, she was the daughter of Earl and Norma (Janssen) Berns. She grew up on the family farm near Lidderdale and graduated from Carroll High School in 1965. She then attended the State College of Iowa (now UNI).
Ms. Aros worked for divisions of Harris Corporation in Quincy Illinois and Mountain View, California from 1970 through 1990. She then worked for Avaya, a spin-off of the Lucent Corporation, as an exhibit manager until retiring in July of 2008 for health reasons.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale where she was baptized and confirmed. She was active in the congregation having served as congregational secretary and Thrivent congregational coordinator. As an active member of the CHS Alumni Association, she was secretary and assisted with the alumni newsletter and yearly homecoming activities. She continued compiling the monthly Remember When columns for the Daily Times Herald in memory of her mother who died in August of 2005. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Carroll County Historical Society.
Survivors include her son Chad Loos and his wife Sherry of Payson, Illinois; a granddaughter Morgan; three step-grandchildren: Tyler, James, and Brittney; three brothers: Sam Berns and wife Judy of Omaha, Nebraska, Stu Berns and wife Dee of Webster City, Iowa, and Stan Berns and his wife Marilyn of Carroll; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Sidney, and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 19, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Pastor Bill Weiss officiating. Organist for the service will be Mrs. Agnes Onken. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday to lie in state until the time of service. Casket bearers will be Bo Berns, T.J. Berns, Adam Berns, Brian Bowman, Zach Berns, Nic Berns, and Randy Greene. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, Immanuel Lutheran Church, or the Carroll Alumni Association and may be left at the funeral home or the church.
