Steven Leonard McDonald, age 39, of Carroll and formerly of Scranton passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Church of Christ in Scranton with Pastor Bob McKnight officiating. Organist for the service will be Laura McKnight. Honorary pall bearers will Jeremy Johns, Chad Kirk, Brian Burris, Tim Sullivan, Mariano Martinez, and Jeremiah Hoyt. An honor guard will be formed at the church by the Jefferson American Legion. Visitation will be held at the Church of Christ in Scranton from on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Graveside service will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter with military honors by the United States Marine Corps. Steven grew up in Scranton and graduated from Jefferson – Scranton High School in 1997. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps following high school and served 18 years during Desert Shield in Iraq. He was also stationed in Twenty Nine Palms, CA, Okinawa, New Orleans, Cherry Hills, NC, and Waterloo, IA. He moved to Jacksonville, FL, following his military service where he worked for Honeywell doing contract work for the United States Navy. Steven moved back to Carroll in 2016 and has been employed by Haley Implement. He loved working on tractors and farm equipment, helping his fellow Marines, helping his brother Chris do farm work, target shooting, his pickup, hanging out with his friends and spending time with his family. Steven is survived by his parents Richard and Rose McDonald of Scranton; his three brothers: Christopher McDonald (Angela) of Auburn, Tracy McDonald (Kristina) of Jefferson, and John McDonald of Scranton; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steven was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Juanita and Earnest “Jack” Beebe and his paternal grandparents Martha and Clarence McDonald.
