Steven Eugene Hamann, age 71, of Arcadia, IA, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at his home in Arcadia.
Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dose officiating. Music for the service will be by Rebecca Dose and Alise Meyers. Casket bearers will be Steve’s grandchildren. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery with military honors by the Arcadia American Legion.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday where there will a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to Zion Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Born on November 27, 1946 in Creston, IA, he was the son of John Henry and Betty Marie (Smith) Hamann. He grew up in Pocahontas, IA, until his senior year in high school when his family moved to Saratoga, WY where he graduated from high school in 1965. Steven enlisted in the United States Army in 1965 and served four years during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the states and worked various jobs. He was married, had a daughter Casey, and was later divorced. He was married to Janeen Marie Boeck on August 9, 1983 at Hutchinson, KS. The couple made their home in Hutchinson where they managed a dairy farm until moving to Kimballton, IA in 1984 where he worked for Wilson Seed in Harlan as assistant to Dr. Brian Kindiger. In 1992 they moved to Woodward, OK, where he worked for the USDA/ARS continuing with Dr. Kindiger. In 1999 he transferred again with Dr. Kindiger to El Reno, OK, to continue their genetics research on cool season grasses until his retirement on July 31, 2018. Steve is co-author on several nationally published scientific articles.
Steve and Janeen moved to Arcadia in August of 2018 and attended Zion Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Arcadia American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, boating, horseback riding, golf and all things outdoors. He loved his family and cherished every moment spent with them.
Steve is survived by his wife Janeen of Arcadia; his daughter Casey Vickery (Steve) of Snyder, TX; son Chad Hamann of Texas; daughter Jennifer Ann Albert (Randy Poldberg) of Audubon; son Paul McEvoy (Amy) of Pilot Point, TX; six grandchildren: LinDee, Kaylee, Jeremy, Danielle, Tristan, and Tasha; great-grandchildren: Letty, Landon, Summer, K sdlete, Roadie, Riley, and Rickey; three step-grandchildren: Skylar, Anna-Grace, and Duncan; brother Larry Hamann (Sherry) of Saratoga, WY; sister Patty Doherty (Joe) Cheyenne, WY; and several nieces, and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his parents.
