The daughter of Adolph and Dorothy (Onken) Wurr, Shirley was born on April 27, 1932, in Carroll, Iowa. Shirley was baptized that same year, confirmed in the Christian faith on April 14, 1946, and united in marriage to her husband by the Pastor Rudolph Herrmann at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale. She grew up on a farm northwest of Lidderdale and attended country school through the eighth grade. She did housecleaning for various people and loved to roller skate and go to dances.

On June 4, 1950, Shirley married the love of her life, Albert Wenck. To this union were two children, Karen and Romayne. Shirley worked diligently beside her husband for 59 years on their grain and livestock century farm. Shirley’s favorite thing to do was be outdoors helping with the farm work, doing chores, painting, displaying antiques in the yard, mowing the lawn, displaying and tending to her beautiful flowers, or just sitting on her bench watching the traffic pass by. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved to embroider tea towels and pillowslips as gifts for her children and grandchildren. As a grandmother she enjoyed making throw pillows for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed collecting miniature spoons or magnets from places she and Albert had visited.

Shirley and Albert enjoyed going to dances, cattle sales, horse events, taking drives throughout the countryside, visits from relatives and friends and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their faith in God and attending worship services at Immanuel Lutheran Church was an important part of their life together. As lifelong members of Immanuel Lutheran Church, they regularly attended worship and Bible study, were members of the Fellowship Club and LLL, and assisted with various church events.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Karen (Richard) Wernimont of Lidderdale and their children Nicholas (Bree) Wernimont and children Cooper and Addelyn of Kearney, MO; Kimberly (Marc) Flanagan and children Jaelyn, Silas and Bridgit of Carroll; Michael (Krista) Wernimont and children Sophia and Brenton of Cameron, MO. A son, Romayne (Darlene) Wenck of Glidden and their children Cody (Jill) Wenck and children Caden, Kassidy and Karigan of Glidden, Colette (Bernie) Heidgerken and their children Hudson, Paisley, Tenley, and Nixon of Grimes; Chance (Allison) Wenck and children Rosie, Bennett, Olive and Sage of Glidden.
