Shirley, the daughter of Jake and Ruth (Rafferty) Bell, was born February 15, 1930 at St. Anthony’s Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. She attended Coon Rapids Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1948. She then attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA for a short time before returning to Coon Rapids.

On January 20, 1949, she was united in marriage to Gerald Hachmeister at the Trinity Lutheran Church. They were blessed with six sons: Greg, Randy, Jeff, Mark, David, and John. They made their home north of Coon Rapids and Shirley was a homemaker raising their children. Gerald passed away on November 8, 2014.

Shirley was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was very active in the ladies aide. She was a member of the TTT’s and the Community Bridge Club for several years. She worked at congregate meals for several years. She was very gifted with singing and sang at numerous weddings and funerals over the years. Shirley was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, making all her grandchildren baby blankets and Christmas stockings. She always had a large vegetable and flower garden and enjoyed canning the produce and was well known for her strawberry jam. She had a need for speed and could often catch her going way TOO fast down the road!

Shirley is survived by her five sons: Greg (Janet) Hachmeister of Coon Rapids, Randy (Janet) Hachmeister of Burlington, IA, Jeff (Laura) Hachmeister, Mark (Linda) Hachmeister, and John Hachmeister and fiancé Dee Frampton all of Coon Rapids; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Gerald Hachmeister; son David Hachmeister, parents; and sister Virginia “Jiddi” (Ron) Mingus.
