Shirley Ann Ehlers, age 81, of Arcadia, IA, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dose officiating. Organist for the service will be Kelly Sixta and soloist will be Mike Wutzke. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. Friends may call at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will resume at Zion Lutheran Church at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Shirley’s family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on May 4, 1936 in Storm Lake, IA, Shirley was the daughter of Elmer and Leona (Kock) Schluter. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Shirley graduated from Kiron High School in 1954. She was married to Glenn Ehlers at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig on March 28, 1954. The couple made their home on a farm west of Arcadia and then moved to the Arthur Ehlers farm in 1958. Shirley was active in the farming operation as well as working for Nelson Manufacturing in Manning. She began working for New Hope Village in 1989 as Community Support Staff. Shirley and Glenn also owned and operated Shirley’s Place in Arcadia for several years. In 1980, Glenn and Shirley bought a home in Arcadia and moved into town. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia where she served with Ladies Aid and served on the Church Council. In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed reading, traveling, working hard, and spending time with her family and at church. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Eileen Shields (Jerry) of Dallas Center, IA; sons: Curtis of Arcadia and Chris of Mapleton; eight grandchildren: Kari Murray (Jake) of Norwalk, IA, Janelle Dent (Duane) of La Conner, WA, Ryan Ehlers (Jennifer Novotny) of Pueblo, CO, Alex Ehlers (Laura Johnk) of Battle Creek, IA, Riley, Adam and Avery Ehlers all of Mapleton, and Danica Ehlers of Arcadia; five great-grandchildren: Lucas, Eva, Jackson, Nathan, and Dean; two sisters: Bonnie Wutzke (Fred) of West Des Moines, and Marlene Cocks of Des Moines; a brother Norman Schluter (Rosanne) of Friend, NE; and a sister-in-law Zelda Inmann of Burlington, IA; and several nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Glenn in 1985; and a granddaughter Barbara Ehlers in 2010.
