Shirley Andersen, age 85, of Carroll, Iowa and formerly of the Webb – Spencer area passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Carroll. A private family graveside service will be held at on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Garfield Township Cemetery near Webb with Rev. Mark Peterson of Iowa Hospice officiating. Born on January 21, 1928 in Pocahontas, Iowa, she was the daughter of Harry and Myrtle (Butler) Johnson. She lived and went to school in Pocahontas. Shirley married Kenneth Andersen on September 5, 1945 in Willmar, Minnesota. Kenneth and Shirley lived on a farm in the Webb area until retiring in 1983. In 1987 they moved to an acreage near Spencer and in 2006 moved to the Sunset Apartments in Spencer. Shirley moved to Carroll and lived at Sunnybrook Assisted Living until her death. Shirley loved living on the farm and enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening. Shirley took care of every stray cat on her farm and acreage and made sure they were all fed. Shirley liked going to garage sales and to the New Hope Bargain Store. Shirley had a large collection of stuffed animals. Shirley is survived by three children, Michael W. Andersen of Pocahontas, Sharon Halder and her husband Dennis of Carroll, and Jim Andersen and his wife Kathi of Hinton, Iowa; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a brother Howard Johnson of California; and several nieces, nephews, and many good friends at Sunnybrook. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents, a brother Dale, and three sisters: Mary Cox, Leona Winegarden, and Dorothy Lynch.
