Shawn Thomas Stewart, age 47, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at his home in Carroll.
Shawn was born on April 15, 1978 in Carroll, IA. He was the son of Tom and Jodie (Duncan) Stewart. Shawn grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1996 where he was on the first school swim team and qualified for state his senior year. He lived in Ft. Dodge following high school where he was the swim coach for Ft. Dodge High School. He moved back to Carroll in 2001 and began coaching the Carroll High School Swim Team and was currently coaching with Carroll Area Swim Team (C.A.S.T). Shawn also worked in disability services most of his career and was a strong advocate for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities, following in his parents’ footsteps. He enjoyed golf, watching football, Fantasy Football, gaming, and he was an avid New York Mets fan.
Shawn is survived by his three children: Trystan Stewart (fiancée Trish Wolterman) of Templeton, Kyra Kane-Stewart of Ames, and Ashlyn Stewart of Carroll; his mother Jodie Jansen (Tim) of Carroll; a step-sister Cassie Jansen of Ankeny; a step-brother Jake Jansen (Monica) of Waukee; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, including his special uncle David Duncan.
Shawn was preceded in death by his father Tom Stewart and his grandparents.
Private family services will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. A celebration of Shawn’s life will be held at a later date.
