Shawn Dione (Hodne) Bennett, age 51, of Glidden, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, following a short illness.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held from 1-5 P.M. on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Glidden American Legion - 106 S. Idaho St. – Glidden, IA.
The Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home of Glidden assisted the family with arrangements.
Shawn requested that instead of flowers, you simply make a goodwill and honest effort to ‘pay it forward’ to someone in need and reminds you that “You are the only person that must look at your face in the mirror for the rest of your life. Make sure you are proud of the face you see.”
Shawn was born August 17, 1972 in Perry, Iowa. After graduating high school, many years of marriage, a divorce, and raising her pride and joys of three wonderful boys, she ultimately married Dax A Bennett on May 2, 2015, and subsequently legally adopted Andrew and Savannah Bennett. She cherished being their ‘bonus mom’ as their own beautiful mother had previously passed away.
She enjoyed challenging herself both physically and mentally, and continued to chase her education throughout her life, ultimately receiving her Masters in School Counseling in May of 2023. Her passion was helping others overcome barriers to become and live their best life.
She is survived by husband Dax A Bennett; children Shane Moes, Tyler (Tessa) Moes, Trenton (Kayla) Moes, Andrew Bennett, and Savannah Bennett (All of Glidden, Iowa); Step-children Gabriel (Bailey Feilmeyer) Bennett (of Carroll, Iowa), Mason Bennett, and Allisandra Bennett (of Woodbine, Iowa); siblings Melissa Hodne (of Carroll, Iowa) and Denton Hodne (of Texas); and grand-children Briggs Bennett and John Moes.
She was preceded in death by her father, Larry A Hodne and grandparents Harold and Lucille Hodne.
“To change the world, tap into your strengths, but do not passively discover who you are. Actively decide and create who you are. If you abdicate this duty by allowing others to tell you who to be, you will struggle greatly in life and likely fail to achieve greatness. So, discover your passion and follow it, but do it as the person you create. The difference is a life of mediocrity and creeping misery compared to a life of freedom and passion.” ― Dave Asprey
