Sharon K. Wagner, age 77, of Carroll passed away peacefully Saturday, June 17, 2017 after a short, courageous, battle with cancer at Hawkeye Care Center in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll with Fr. Timothy Johnson as Celebrant. Music for the Mass will be by the Holy Spirit Choir with Barb McDermott as organist. Lector for the Mass will be Casey Sexton. Gift Bearers will be Cathy Sabus, Cindy Balm, and Catherine Carey. Eucharistic Minister will be Kathy Kraus. Casket bearers will be Sharon’s grandchildren. Honorary casket bearers will be Catherine Carey, Ann Dunnigan, Karen Lamereux, Marianne Proffitt, Cathy Sabus, Casey Sexton, Jo Shields, Beth Shoemaker and her card players. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church at 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com The family suggests memorials be made to the Churdan Public Library or the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Greene County for upkeep. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church. Sharon K. Wagner was born on March 21, 1940 to F. Harold and Kathryn (Morgan) Flack near Churdan, on the Quigley family farm, in Greene County, IA. She went to Bristol #2 country school through the eighth grade, the same school her father and grandfather attended. Sharon graduated from Churdan High School in May, 1958. She went to cosmetology school in Des Moines, IA and took boards in August of 1959. She worked in Churdan, IA and Fort Dodge, IA. She moved to Fort Dodge, IA in April, 1962. Sharon served a couple years with the YFU student exchange program. Sharon was united in marriage to G. Johann “John” Wagner on June 22, 1963 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan, IA. They lived in Fort Dodge, IA and Churdan, IA prior to moving to Carroll, IA in April of 1969. Sharon and John were blessed with three children: Kathryn “Katie”, John H. and Anthony “Tony”. Sharon and John worked side by side at Johnny’s Tap in Churdan and later at the Carroll Elks Lodge. Sharon loved her family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought joy to her life. Sharon loved playing bridge, working on puzzles, researching genealogy and sewing…especially quilting. She was an accomplished seamstress and could make anything; rather she had a pattern or not. Sharon had a quick wit, comeback for everything, and was never without a story. Following her diagnosis, she had numerous visitors and countless cards & phone calls. Her diagnosis did not change her spirit. Sharon is survived by her husband John of Carroll, they would have celebrated their 54th anniversary on June 22nd. Sharon’s children and their families are: Katie (Bryan) Christensen of Council Bluffs, IA, and their children Rebecca and Adam; John (Lisa) Wagner of Carroll, IA, and their children Alexander, Melissa, Madeline, and Simon and Tony (Shawna) Wagner of Carroll, IA, and their children Kelsey, Brandi, Brooke and Markus. Three great-grandchildren are Charlee Wagner, Thaddeus Wagner and Astrid Jackson. Three sisters: Karen (Bob) Gingery of Churdan, IA; Kathy (Raymond) Matthews of Nebraska City, NE and Cindy (Craig) Balm of Carroll, IA. Sister-in-law Erika Schmid and husband Karl of Grunwald, Germany and numerous nieces, nephews and unbelievable friends. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, F. Harold and Kathryn Flack of Churdan, IA; mother-in-law, Franziska Sedelmeier of Munich, Germany and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
