Shari Oleson

Shari Rae Oleson, age 68, of Carroll passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Sunny Brook Assisted Living in Carroll following a courageous battle with cancer.      Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll with Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating.  Organist for the service will be Jan Potthoff.  Casket bearers will be Steve Nuckels, Jim Van Dyke, Jim Gossett, Keith Petersen, Norval Nissen, Robert Oleson, and Kent Kraft.  Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.      In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Don and Shari Oleson Memorial Scholarship Fund and may be left at the funeral home or the church. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M.  The casket will be moved to St. John Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Wednesday where visitation will resume until the time of service.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on May 26, 1950 in Charles City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Ray and Wanda (Van Horn) Johnson.  She grew up in Greene where she graduated from high school in 1968.  Shari attended Wartburg College in Waverly and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education.  She was married to Donald Oleson on May 1, 1971 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greene, Iowa.  Don and Shari lived in Coon Rapids for two years and Shari taught in Scranton.  They moved to Carroll in 1973 and Shari taught fourth and sixth grade until her retirement.  Following her retirement she worked part time at Hearing Unlimited as a technician.  Shari was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll, Beta Sigma Sorority, and the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary.  She enjoyed cross stitch, reading, and spoiling her grandchildren.       Shari is survived by her daughter Suzanne (David) Olberding of Carroll; her son Jeffrey (Michelle) Oleson of Polk City, IA; her seven grandchildren: Abigail, Erin, Ethan, Lauren, Isaiah, Addison, and Emmerson; her sister Jolene (Kyle) Kraft of Seguin, TX; a brother-in-law Robert (Sue) Oleson of Urbandale, IA; a sister-in-law Mary (Allen) Tesdahl of Clarion, IA; and several nieces and nephews.      Shari was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Wanda Johnson; her mother and father-in-law Floyd and Thyra Oleson; and her husband Donald Oleson on May 20, 2017.
