Shane D. Hamer, age 44, of Carroll passed away at his home unexpectedly on Friday, February 29, 2008.
Born on August 29, 1963 at Denison, Iowa, he was the son of Dennis and Mary (Schroeder) Hamer. His family moved from Denison to Chicago and then to Carroll in 1972. Following high school he served in the Navy for four years during the Beirut Conflict. Shane graduated from Carroll High School in 1981. He was a truck driver and had worked for Lawrence Schroeder for the past two years.
Surviving are his mother Mary Hamer of Carroll; his father Dennis Hamer of Missouri Valley, Iowa; a sister Deena Bachman of Colorado; a brother Dion Hamer and his wife Denise of Carroll; his grandmother Letta Hamer of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and the following nieces and nephews: Chessa Seddon, T.J. Vanderheiden, Heather Vanderheiden, Aaron Vanderheiden, Danielle Hugeback, and Kassi and Haley Hamer. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Vernon Hamer, his maternal grandparents Elsie and Cornelius Schroeder, and a nephew Jacob Hamer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, March 3, 2008 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Michael Fitzsimmons of the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Monday. Casket bearers will be Jimmy Larson, Troy Whiley, Charlie Carritt, and Jeff Carritt. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors by the Carroll American Legion.
