Ruth Liechti

Ruth Elaine (Obman) Liechti passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 89 years of age. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ben Dose officiating. Music for the service will be by Lisa McNelly and the congregation will sing “Just As I Am”, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art”. Casket bearers will be Ruth’s grandchildren. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to Zion Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday were visitation will resume until the time of service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Ruth was born in Carroll on October 11, 1927 to Clarence and Mathilda (Schuette) Obman. Ruth was the oldest of 3 girls, Betty (Mrs. Arlo Dammann, Manning) and Helen (Mrs. Floyd Leiting, Arcadia) Ruth lived her younger years on a farm in Rockwell City. She was instrumental in helping on the family farm. She attained her formal education in Rockwell City, graduating from Rockwell City High School. In 1942, Ruth was confirmed in her faith at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City, Iowa. Later, their family moved to the family farm near Arcadia. On November 30, 1958 Ruth was united in marriage with John Mac Liechti at the Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa. They made their home in Arcadia. Ruth worked for the “family business”, Arcadia Livestock Market, while tending to their 3 boys, John, Roger and Gene. She was a special mother who tended to the needs of her 3 boys, knowing that her girls would arrive at her doorstep someday. Her only wish was to see her boys grow up and hoped that they would live nearby….of which both wishes were granted. Ruth enjoyed attending weekend dances at the Arcadia Legion with her husband, Mac, and their friends who appreciated the big band music. After losing his battle to cancer on February 15, 2004, Ruth lost Mac, her partner of 47 years. More recently, Ruth enjoyed frequenting the local restaurant chains in Carroll with her sister, Helen. Ruth also enjoyed being part of the Zion Lutheran Bible studies and Arcadia community coffees. Family being important to her, she looked forward to the outings with her sister, Helen, and their brother-in-law, Arlo. She also enjoyed birthday celebrations and holidays with family near. She took great pride in visiting with her sons about their trucking businesses, spending holidays with family and enjoying visits by her grandchildren (7) and even great grandchildren (4). Ruth died peacefully at her home in Arcadia on Monday, March 6th. She was 89 years of age. She is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Mathilda Obman; her husand, John Mac Liechti; her sister, Betty Dammann; and her brother-in-laws Floyd Leiting and Earl Liechti. She is survived by her children: John (Kristy) Liechti of Lake View, Iowa; Roger (Beth) Liechti of Vail, Iowa and Gene (Julie) Liechti of Arcadia, Iowa. Grandchildren John Kevin (Kenzie) Liechti of Arcadia; Jay (Brittany) Liechti of Wall Lake; Alyssa (Caleb) DeRoss of Kansas City, MO ; Neil (Meredith) Liechti of West Des Moines; Blake Liechti of Vail; Kyle Liechti of Stillwater , Oklahoma; Nicole Liechti of Sioux City; and 4 great-grandchildren Makena, Klara, Kreighton, and Tegan. Sister, Helen Leiting of Arcadia; brother-in-law, Arlo Dammann of Manning, sister-in-law Jeanett Liechti and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
