Ruth Hilda Helmkamp

Ruth Hilda Helmkamp, age 81, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale with Pastor Bill Weiss officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Wednesday to lie in state until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Tami Biggerstaff. Congregational hymns will be “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “Beautiful Savior”. Casket bearers will be Dan Onken, Duane Onken, Peter von Qualen, Ralph von Qualen, Wesley Onknen, and Nathan Onken. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Lidderdale. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on March 12, 1930 on her family’s farm north of Lidderdale, Iowa, she was the daughter of William and Frieda (Fricke) Helmkamp. She grew up near Lidderdale and attended school at Immanuel Lutheran School. Following school she lived with her mother and did babysitting for several families. She moved to New Hope Village in the late 1970’s and moved into group home in 1987. She was member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale. Ruth enjoyed working at New Hope Enterprises, scrapbooks and photo albums of her family, keeping up with the activities of her nieces and nephews, and spending time with her family. Ruth has made her home at the Carroll Health Center since December of 2006. Surviving are two sisters: Olga Hansen of Farnhamville, Iowa, and Agnes Onken of Carroll; a sister-in-law Mildred Helmkamp of Carroll; 17 nieces and nephews; and her special friend George Fry of Carroll. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Carl, and a sister Meta Youngblood.
