Ruth Gliem, age 85, of Lanesboro passed away on Friday, October 08, 2010 at Greene County Long Term Care in Jefferson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the Lanesboro United Methodist Church with Rev. Lexi Kirkpatrick officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn & Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Tuesday to lie in state until the time of service. Burial will be in the Lanesboro Cemetery.
Born on June 21, 1925, at Carroll County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Lee and Edna (Pinney) Powers. She grew up in Glidden and graduated from Glidden High School. She then worked at the Glidden Drug Store for several years. She was married to Claude Gliem on February 25, 1945. The couple farmed south east of Lanesboro where they raised their family. She was very active in the Lanesboro United Methodist Church. In her spare time Ruth enjoyed painting, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters: Connie J. Burgart of Grand Junction and Cindy Ore and her husband Archie of Grand Junction; two sons: Jeff Gliem and his wife Connie of Dow City and David Gliem and his wife Diane of Grand Junction; 22 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; three brothers: Rex Powers and his wife Janet of Eau Claire Wisconsin, Jack Powers and his wife Dorothy of Blaine, Minnesota, Billy Powers and his wife Sharon of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; three sisters: Betty Huhn and her husband Frank of Orange, Virginia, Evelyn “Suzy” Kappes and her husband Norbert of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Velma Olymick of Mesa, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2000, her daughter Carol in 1984, a granddaughter Kimberely in 1967, a grandson Shawn in 1999, and three brothers: Bobby, Merle, and Eddy, and a sister Jean Powers.
