Russell Rex Murphy

Russell “Rusty” Rex Murphy, age 48, of Scranton, Iowa, passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 17, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Scranton with Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton after 5:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.. The casket will be moved to the church at 9:00 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Burial will be in the Willow Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on September 29, 1963 he was the son of Larry and Roberta (Rogan) Murphy. He grew up in Scranton and graduated from Bayard High School in 1982. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was deployed to Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia. He served a total of ten years in the military stationed in Arizona, Montana, Illinois, and Texas. Following his military career he lived in Arizona where he worked in admissions at a hospital and at an auto shop. Rusty moved back to Scranton in 2007. He was affiliated with the Methodist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and being with his St. Bernard Icess and his 2 Great Dane puppies. Surviving are his father Larry Murphy and his wife Beverly of Jefferson; a brother Robert Murphy and his wife Elizabeth of Scranton; a niece Kimberly Murphy of Scranton; a step sister Denae Rusk and her husband Gregory of Detroit, Michigan; and two step brothers Darren Bishop and his wife Jenna of Ankeny, Iowa, and Darwin Bishop and his wife Jackie of Hinton, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and many good friends. Rusty was preceded in death by his mother Roberta in 1992 and his grandparents.
