Rowena J. Kult, age 91, of Coon Rapids passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with Fr. Andrew Hoffman of Annunciation Catholic Church officiating. Casket bearers will be Rowena’s grandchildren. Burial will be in the Coon Rapids Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Monday evening and will resume at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home or St. Anthony Hospice and may be left with the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com Born on August 14, 1924 on her family’s farm south of Coon Rapids, she was the daughter of Orlo and Grace (Neal) Whitten. She attended country school and graduated from Coon Rapids Community School in 1942. She and Edwin Kult were married on October 1, 1946 and made their home on a farm north of Coon Rapids. Rowena and Ed were the parents of five sons: Steve, John, Jerry, Tom, and Keith, grandparents of seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Rowena spent her years as a homemaker and was always present at her sons’ school and 4-H events and was a Cub Scout leader for many years. Rowena was well known in the area as an accomplished seamstress and was honored by the Coon Rapids – Bayard School after 35 years of using her talents to create costumes for the school’s theater productions and musical events. Rowena also made numerous quilts, afghans, and teddy bears, most of which she gave away as baby, graduation and wedding gifts. She also made beautiful outfits for porcelain dolls. Ed passed away in October of 2001. Rowena continued to make her home on the farm until the fall of 2010 when she moved into Coon Rapids and became a resident of Thomas Rest Haven in June of 2016. Rowena is survived by her children: Steve Kult (Pat) of Coon Rapids, John Kult (Ann) of Coon Rapids, Jerry Kult (Deb) of Coon Rapids, Tom Kult (Barb) of Chino Valley, AZ, and Keith Kult (Deb) of Glidden; seven grandchildren: Brenda Pottebaum (Dale) of Carroll, Michelle Clinton (Chad) of Coon Rapids, Daniel Kult of Quantico, VA, Jennifer Tonko (Sean) of Northfield, MN, Keegan Kult (Kim) of Ankeny, Melissa Toney (Darrin) of Carroll and Nathan Kult (special friend Rachel Sporrer) of Ankeny; ten great grandchildren; three brothers: Gerald Whitten (Mary) of Redfield, IA, Bob Whitten of Des Moines, and Lans Whitten of Dallas Center; two sisters: Winona Walsh of Austin, TX, and Myrna Wulf of Carroll; a brother-in-law Bill Kunisch of Toledo, OH; three sisters-in-law: Jennie Whitten of Carroll, Joan Whitten of Des Moines, and Lois Pies (Kenneth) of Madrid, IA; and many nieces and nephews. Rowena was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers: Neal and Kyle Whitten, four sisters: JoAnn Alex, Lettie Fee, Betty Whitten, and Linda Whitten, sisters-in-law: Mary Lucille Mills, Rita Kunisch, and Irene Whalen, and brothers-in-law: Clair Walsh and Winston Wulf, and great grand-daughter Ashley Esdohr.
