Born on February 6, 1942 in Carroll, IA, Ronald was the son of Donald and Mary (Cunningham) Kerwood. The eldest of 4, he grew up on a farm just outside the close-knit community of Glidden, Iowa. There he made lifelong memories and proudly graduated with the Glidden High School Class of 1960. Ron began working for the Farmer’s Cooperative in Glidden, where he would go on to spend his entire 47+ year career.

Ron answered the call to serve his country and community by enlisting in the Iowa National Guard. In the Guard, utilizing the sharpshooting skills he honed hunting squirrels on the farm, he earned distinction as an Expert Marksman (Carbine).

On December 30, 1967 he was united in marriage to Ella Jean Schwarzenbach at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll by Msgr. Karhoff. Ron and Ella Jean shared over 57 years of marriage and an unwavering partnership before her passing in February 2025. To this union, their only son, Mark, was born.

Ron thoroughly enjoyed the company of others, was a loyal friend, and a respected member of the community. Known for his steadfast nature, practical wisdom, and impeccable Irish Goodbye, he could be found at the bowling alley, golf course, or any high school sporting event in the area.

Ronald is survived by his son Mark Kerwood (Irene Nissen) and grandson Walter Kerwood of Fort Collins, CO; brother David Kerwood (Joan) of Boone, IA; sister Patricia Nedved (Gerald) of Garner, IA; sister-in-law Carole Alexander of Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Ronald was preceded in death by his wife Ella Kerwood; parents Donald and Mary Kerwood; parents-in-law Kenneth and Hilda Schwarzenbach; and brother Larry Kerwood.
