Ronald "Doc" Davis, age 82, of Coon Rapids passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 21, 2015 at his home in Coon Rapids. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church with Rev. Joyce Webb officiating. Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 - 7 P.M. on Thursday. The casket will be moved to the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church at 9:00 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Lula Garnes and soloist will be Cindy Seastrom. Casket bearers will be Doc's grandchildren. Burial will be in the Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids with military honors by the Coon Rapids American Legion. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com. Born on December 14, 1932 in Marengo, IA, he was the son of Wallace and Ellen (Wagner) Davis. He grew up in the Iowa City area and he graduated from Iowa City High School. He attended Iowa State University and was drafted into the United States Army in 1954 and served two years. After his military service he returned to Iowa State and finished Veterinary school graduating in 1961. He was married to Carol Willits on October 17, 1953 at Collegiate Methodist Church in Ames. Following Veterinary school Doc and Carol moved to Coon Rapids where he began practicing veterinary medicine with Richard Shirbroun. Eight years later began his own practice, Davis Veterinary Clinic, later adding Dr. John Clayburg as a partner. Doc retired in 2008. He enjoyed raising horses and showing them with his children. Doc also enjoyed fishing, bird watching and he was an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan. He was a member of the Coon Rapids United Methodist Church and the Coon Rapids American Legion. Doc is survived by his wife Carol of 61 years of Coon Rapids; three daughters: Linda Davis of Middlebury, VT, Kimberly Irby and her husband Phil of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Julie Free and her husband Arthur of Glidden; two sons: Glenn Davis and his wife Rachel of Crestview, FL, and John Davis and his wife Lori Ankeny; seven grandchildren: Ryan Davis, Christopher Davis, Jennifer Davis, Justin Free, Payton Davis, Parker Davis, and Jared Free; two great grandchildren: Austin and Zane; two sisters: Jennie Davidson and her husband DuWayne of Cedar Rapids and Barbara Mikelson and her husband Bob of Solon; three brothers: Edwin Davis of Sunrise Beach, MO, Steve Davis and his wife Carol of Colorado Springs, CO, and Eugene Davis and his wife Dori of Versaillies, MO; a sister-in-law Joan Dean of Sarepta, LA; and a brother-in-law Arthur Cox and his wife Pat of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dale Davis and a sister-in-law Linda Davis
